She informed the press that garbage thrown into specifically gutters blocks water ways and cause flooding particularly during the rains. “Through the ‘Cleanest Zone in Freetown Competition’, the Council will award the community in the city with the cleanest environment with development projects like water, solar lights, and scholarship for children,” she said, adding that the competition takes effect immediately.
She added: “We will monitor the zones up to Christmas and the winning zone will get solar lights, water, and scholarship for their children,” Mayor Aki-Sawyer told a crowded meeting with community representatives in Freetown.
