Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio has joined the Sierra Leone Entertainment Industry to appeal to her husband, His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio for a Presidential Pardon for Alhaji Amadu Bah aka LAJ.

The Sierra Leonean rapper voluntarily returned himself to the Pademba Road Male Correctional Center in Freetown after he was released during a prison break-in on Sunday, 27th November, 2023.

In a plea to the nation after he returned to detention, LAJ called for unity and prioritisation of peace and security. He said: “Let us stand united against any form of violence or discord and work towards building a harmonious Sierra Leone”.

The rapper further urged fellow Sierra Leoneans, especially his fans, to remain vigilant and support government and security forces in their efforts to uphold law and order.

Earlier this week, in preparation for the upcoming commemoration to mark the fifth anniversary of the impactful “Hands Off Our Girls” campaign, First Lady Dr. Bio convened a strategic planning meeting with key representatives from the entertainment industry. The meeting aimed to collaboratively plan on celebrating this 5th milestone. The First Lady has always harnessed the influential reach of the entertainment sector in raising awareness against Sexual and Gender Based Violence.

Whilst recognising the pivotal role of entertainment in effective advocacy, the First Lady expressed gratitude for the continuous involvement of Sierra Leone entertainers. The meeting discussed strategies to leverage various art forms to even further amplify the campaign’s core message and thus engage a broader audience.
