Flood Victims protest to President Koroma

Akim Koroma told the gathering that, the National Executive of Flood Victims specifically conveyed the meeting with the cardinal objective of informing their membership about the overall status report on activities and programmes geared towards their relocation to Six Miles.

According to him, the donation in question was made to them by the African Muslim Agency during their brief stay at the national stadium after the September 16 torrential rains that inflicted immeasurable damages to various residents and slum communities within Freetown and its environs.  

He said in as much as they are thankful to the President Ernest Bai Koroma and his government, humanitarian organizations and private individuals, they want the president to visit six Mile for first hand information as all is not well with  the victims.

The flood victim Scribe intimated that they have made several attempts for the Ministry of Social Welfare, gender and Children’s Affairs to conduct a distribution exercise of the all donations made on their behalf that is still in their custody, adding that recently, thieves broke and forcefully entered into the Ministry’s store at the National Stadium.

Akim Koroma further disclosed that government has relocated one hundred and twenty one households including one hundred and fifty one. He said they were provided with four hundred thousand leones to rent houses on their own at six Mile.

The current administration of flood Victim at Six Mile, he went on is working in consonance with the national executive body which has created information gap between the two administrations as to how they should present a concerted resolution and working document.

The Flood Victims’ Public Relations Officer, Jambai Kabai expressed profound gratitude to National Coordinator of the Office of National Security, Ishmeal Tarawalie and his team for their diligence and transparent manner in which they have successfully ensured the commencement of construction of houses for flood victims in that part of the country.

Mr. Kabai told his audience that, the Office of National Security has never politicized issues affecting them, and it on record for been the institution that has crusaded and ensured the successful implementation of activities and programmes of flood victims.

He urged President Koroma to intervene. He said they have a record of over five hundred children presently at six mile who have no structured or permanent educational programmes. The ceremony was spiced with traditional songs and placards held by flood victims with inscriptions; such as President Koroma is a  Redeemer, Tell Alhaji Moijue Kai Kai to give us our mattresses, God Bless President Koroma for a job well done and President Koroma please help flood victims.
