Sierra Leone’s Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swaray has left Sierra Leone as part of the Tripartite Team that will represent Sierra Leone at the 112th session of the International Labour Conference at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Geneva. The meeting is holding from 3rd to 14th June 2024.
Described as “the only tripartite United Nations agency, since 1919″ the ILO brings together governments, employers and workers of 187 member States, to set labour standards every year.
The ILO mandates all 187 Member States to ensure that their national delegations are composed of three part leadership in the form of a tripartite team co-led by firstly, the Political Leader (in this case the Cabinet Minister), secondly the representative leader of the Labour Force (in this case the Sierra Leone Labour Congress) and thirdly the representative leadership of the Employers (in this case, the Sierra Leone Employers Federation).
The news of the minister taking such a three-part (tripartite) leadership to the 2024 ILO was announced by the minister himself on his social media platforms.
_”In the next few days, I will lead a tripartite delegation including the Labour Congress and Sierra Leone Employers Federation to the International Labour Organisation in Geneva to discuss fundamental principles and rights at work,” Minister Swaray posted on his Facebook page.
“These universal, inalienable and indivisible rights are crucial for decent work and sustainable economic growth,” the Minister asserted whilst promising to give to the public his “updates from the International Labour Conference”.
