Former President Koroma granted bail, put on House Arrest …Can’t step out of his house without permission from Police IG

After the second day of questioning by the Sierra Leone Police at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Former President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has been granted bail on self-recognisance.

In addition, he has been ordered to stay in the confines of his property at Goderich with restricted number of visiting guests (3 from his family and 3 from his party).

The conditions include that he cannot step out of the house without the expressed permission of the Inspector General of Police and these terms will apply until his return to the police to continue the questioning today Monday, 11th December, 2023 at 11:00am.

On X, the former president said: I’m deeply concerned over the unfolding events in Freetown, and I strongly condemn the grave breaches of state security. As expressed in my public statements, I maintain an open mind, place my trust in due process and the rule of law to prevail. Profound thanks to all well-wishers for their support”.

Mr. Koroma’s appeared at the CID for questioning. The investigation revolves around the thwarted coup on November 26, implicating several of Koroma’s former bodyguards.

He is currently undergoing questioning at the CID, accompanied by his lawyer, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara.

On each appearance, the CID headquarters’ surroundings are barricaded, creating an atmosphere of heightened security. The former president is actively engaged in the investigation process, responding to inquiries regarding the alleged failed coup attempt.

The gravity of the situation is underscored by the restricted access, indicating the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation.
