Her Worship Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, Deputy Mayor Kweku Lisk, Councillors Unisa Kamara, Zainab Conteh and Abdulai Kabba visited the Kroo Bay fire disaster site over the weekend with staff from FCC’s Climate Change and Social Services Departments.
The Mayor and the FCC Team made a donation to the fire victims comprising 20 x 50kg bags of rice, 2 bales of clothes, school materials (exercise books, pens and pencils, school bags etc) and hand sanitizers.
With over 300 residents temporarily homeless from the fire, the donation was very much appreciated by community members and the donated items were peacefully distributed under the supervision of FCC Staff, Kroo Bay Chief Kabempa and other community stakeholders.
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr used this occasion to once again stress the importance of Government ensuring that there is a building permit regime to minimize the growth of informal settlements, the need for EDSA to prevent power surges into homes, and the need for residents to stop the practice of connecting several homes to a single meter.
She stated that FCC is committed to collaborating with all other stakeholders to help reduce the risk of recurring fires and other disasters.
