The soft spoken former youth and sports minister, who lived and worked in Accra, Ghana after they lost power in 2007 to the All Peoples Party, APC, said he was back in time to partake of the upcoming national executive elections and continue to serve his party ahead of the polls in 2018.

He said he was motivated to run for the position of chairman and leader so that he could ensure that the party was unified and functioning very well as they prepared for national elections.

“Everybody knows that when the SLPP is functioning very well there is no party better than us,” he boasted.

He promised that if elected as chairman and leader: “I will engage all factions within the party in a bid to bring all together to work with one common agenda and in the interest of the party”.

He added: “In order to achieve this goal, I will first target the immediate counsellors and advisers to the different flagearer aspirants in order to create a common understanding and to get headway in unifying them.

Dr bright further stated that he was capable to handle and lead the party because he was familiar with its affairs, having served as its regional secretary general in the Western Area.

He also maintained that he had a sound relationship with everyone in the party, including his fellow aspirants and flagbearer aspirants, adding that he had an unbroken contact with the party ever since he officially became a member in 2002.

He also disclosed that he had a strategic advantage to position the party to win the 2018 election because he had a perfect knowledge about the western area, which according to him, was very critical in the upcoming presidential elections and was going to be the decider in the race.

“I have a perfect knowledge about the western area which is going to be the decider in the 2018 elections,” he said, adding that his work with young people was great when he was minister of youth.

“My work with young people has been very profound. I have a way of connecting with them. When I became minister, my work with young people stretched across the country,” he explained.

“I visited all the 12 provincial districts in the country where I met with and set up structures for young people,” he continued and referred to young people as a very keen and integral part of his policy, thus regarding them as very important in the elections.

The former minister also expressed optimism over the party winning the 2018 elections but only if they sorted out their problems within shortest possible time.

“We also have to show the public that we are ready to govern. We should begin to showcase what we have and  show that we are ready go back to the time when SLPP can come to the rescue of the people and solve some of their problems,” he added.
