Speaking at the Commission’s headquarter in Freetown, the Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Bundu Kamara recalled September, 2014 during the height of the Ebola crisis when President Dr. Ernest Bai made the pronouncement in Kenema that all health workers who volunteered in the fight to contain the Ebola be employed in recognition of the services.
Dr. Kamara said the Health Service Commission was directly involved in the uptake of that responsibility because the Commission is mandated to recruit Koroma, appoint, recommend and to ensure that once the recommendations reach their office from their partners, such as the Human Resource Directorate in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, they would perform their duty.
The recruitment process, Dr. Kamara disclosed started with the Kenema and Kailahun districts and will continue with Bo and the rest of the districts.
He reiterated that the completion of the entire exercise will last for about six weeks, adding that there are plans to recruit more as long as the recommendation reaches the Commission.
He furthered that in the health care delivery system MCH Aides form the core value of the health service in the Peripheral Health Units at0U87 community level, describing them as “foot soldiers” promoting maternal and child health across the country.
The recruitment continues with other districts.
