Hon. Tunis concludes ECOWAS Parliamentary Mission to Address Political Situation in Senegal

As the Speaker of the Regional Parliament, Rt. Hon. Dr. Sidie Mohamed Tunis has concluded a crucial diplomatic endeavor aimed at addressing the current political situation in Senegal.

The mission, conducted on 12th and 13th February, 2024, sought to assess the challenges surrounding the postponement of the presidential elections and provide recommendations to safeguard peace, stability, and democratic processes in Senegal.

Dr. Tunis, accompanied by esteemed members of the ECOWAS Parliament, engaged in a series of meetings with key stakeholders, including His Excellency Amadou Mame Diop, Speaker of the Senegalese National Assembly, parliamentary groups, civil society representatives, and political actors. These consultations provided valuable insights into Senegal’s socio-political landscape and the efforts being made to navigate the electoral impasse.

The recommendations issued by the parliamentary delegation emphasize the urgent need for calm, restraint, and inclusive political dialogue to address the challenges facing Senegal.
