Hon. Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella has arrived in Denver, Colorado, to join a select group of stakeholders who are part of the Board of Trustees of the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI).

The Board has oversight and policy responsibility of RMI and is kept informed of the Institute’s affairs and meets four times a year.

The Colorado-based organisation is an independent, non-partisan, nonprofit organisation of experts across disciplines working to accelerate the clean energy transition and improve lives.

Its mission is to ‘transform the global energy system in order to secure a clean, prosperous, zero-carbon future for all’.  RMI is one of the world’s premier think tanks on climate change, energy and sustainable development.

Aside from the meetings of the Board of Trustees, Hon. Yumkella will feature in key panels where the audience will be fellow trustees, RMI’s leadership, donors and staff.

In 2020, the RMI was one of the first recipients of funding from the Bezos Fund in recognition of its stellar analytical work on climate change and energy issues.

The $10 million grant from the Bezos Fund focused on accelerating decarbonization of buildings and industry.  RMI’s Carbon-Free Buildings received $8 million to greenhouse gas GHG emissions from homes, commercial structures, and other buildings.

The additional $2M was meant to supercharge industrial decarbonization through the Mission Impossible Partnership (MPP).
