It can be recalled that the final presidential result read by the National Returning Officer and Chief Commissioner of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Mohamed N’fah Alie Conteh in the evening of Tuesday 13th March, 2018 have it that out of the total number of Three Million, One Hundred and Twenty-Eight Thousand, Nine Hundred and Sixty-Seven (3,128,967) Sierra Leoneans who registered to vote, SLPP’s Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio polled one million and ninety seven thousand, four hundred and eighty-two votes (1,097,482); amounting to 43.3% of the national valid votes cast and the ruling All People’s Congress (APC’s) party’s, Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara polled one million and eighty two thousand, seven hundred and forty-eight (1,082,748); amounting to 42.7%.
The two presidential candidates failed to reach the required percentage of 55% to be addressed president elect. So for Maada Bio to now start addressing himself with such titles is worrisome and requires very urgent attention from NEC and relevant authorities of the electoral process.
