Many political parties and individuals made public their opinions on the nomination of the former Leader and Chairman of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) Party, Mohamed Bangura. The latest among the parties to question the legality of Mohamed Bangura was the People’s Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) headed by Charles Francis Margai.

Mr. Margai wrote the Parliamentary Committee on Appointment and Public Service giving it reasons why it should not approve Mr. Mohamed Bangura. In his letter, Charles Margia cited sections in the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone that prohibit Mr. Bangura from holding any ministerial post.

The letters from both the Alliance Democratic Party (ADP) and the People’s Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) were discarded by the committee for failure to take into consideration the other provisions in the Constitution that allow Mr. Bangura to hold the post. The committee finds no reason to waste time on the letter of Charles Francis Margai, but spent time on educating the attendees on the provisions that backed the appointment of Mr. Mohamed Bangura.
