He noted “as head of IPAM I have decided to set up a programme to address the mass failure in mathematics and English Language in order to meet President Julius Maada Bio’s agenda for quality education as we have done a survey and saw the big gab that warrants the timely intervention of IPAM.”
The Proactive Professor disclosed that the Institute is about to equip it campuses in Bo, Kenema, Kono and Makeni in order to address the issue and as well recruit the most qualified and experience teachers in English and Mathematics with apt knowledge and experience in the WASSCE syllabus.
Prof. Samuel E.B Nonie said that IPAM is introducing a programme for students that recorded passes in most of their subjects but Mathematics and English, adding, “This programme is taking education to the people, we are taking education to your door step which is a pillar in our administration”.
Professor Nonie further stated that the issue of mass failure is a big concern to IPAM noting that a problem in one area or sector of the country is problem for all, asserting, “we as parents need to help our children to receive better education in order for them to contribute to the nation and IPAM will continue in that direction. The programme, is not just linked to a syndicate but focuses on areas where we notice that students have problem while those that have not yet attempted the WASSCE will be treated differently. He said they will bring teachers from Freetown to help the already experienced and dedicated lecturers in the provinces”.
He emphasised that the new IPAM model will focus on IPAM Provincial Campuses because students in Freetown have advantage of getting good syndicates whiles those in the provinces do not and IPAM will help those in the provinces
Several contributors on the programmes expressed thanks to the Professor and team for considering Makeni for such a model.
A student, Abdul Rahman Sesay maintained that it is the biggest intervention IPAM has undertaken to help parents in developing their children and at a time when they are frustrated with recent results and how they can salvage the situation.
Section Chief Pa Alimamy Osman Ntham of Masorie Town expressed delight that such a model is starting in the northern region, noting, “We will always be grateful to IPAM for such a laudable venture and the problem of sending our children to relatives in Freetown to take the Private WASSCE which will now become a thing of the pass”.
Director of Strategic Planning and Quality Assurance, University of Sierra Leone David Gbo, revealed that not only in Sierra Leone but Africa at as a whole where sometimes the services and product provided do not meet customers’ satisfaction, adding, “our office is here to support what the Professor is doing to ensure quality assurance with regard to high value academic content which the university is delivering.
Margret Sheriff Bangura, Coordinator for IPAM in Makeni, assured the people of Makeni about their preparedness to deliver quality education for the next academic year.
The delegation headed by the Vice Chancellor after the programme went on a conducted tour to see the new facilities of IPAM.
