Hon. Justice Alusine Sesay made these statements while presiding over the 2018 Criminal Jurisdiction Calendar which is also referred to as the Call over Session of the High Court of Sierra Leone.
He made it abundantly clear that people charged to court for offences like mobile theft, house breaking and larceny, and wounding should not be pampered, or the State to waste resources on them, but rather they should be working on community services like assisting the State in the construction of roads, the monthly cleaning exercise and the cultivation of State Farms.
While adjudicating the November 2018 Criminal Jurisdiction Calendar of accused persons for trial at the High Court, Hon. Justice Alusine Sesay remanded a Gambian national, Dauda Bojan at the Male Correctional Centre at Pademba in Freetown.
The accused person, Dauda Bojan is charged with the offence of Uttering Forged Document, which contravenes Section (8) Rule (1) and (2) of the Forgery Act of 1913.
He was arrested on 15th July, 2018 at the Freetown International Airport in the Kaffu Bullon Chiefdom in the north-western region of Sierra Leone with one United Kingdom residential permit and a forged Sierra Leone passport.
When the three counts charges were put to the accused person, he pleaded guilty, but begged for mercy.
Hon. Justice Alusine Sesay also intimated the court that such an act should not be encouraged in society, and that he would order the deportation of the accused person, in order to discourage people from engaging in such dangerous and criminal behavior.
The State was represented by A.G.M. Bockarie, while the accused person Dauda Bojan was defended by Barrister O. C. Spencer-Coker from the Legal Aid Board.
