The northern Sierra Leonean coast constitutes the productive ledge of Sierra Leone. Therefore, most of the artisanal fishing activities in the country, many say, occur in the North.
Kabba M. Kamara is an artisanal fisherman and an orphan who gets his livelihood through fishing; he spoke of his trade in Kathabie, a popular fishing area at Pumping Station in Kambia.
Kabba, a school drop-out went on to say fishing is his only source of livelihood since he lost his two parents but said it is a difficult livelihood when it comes to finance.
Kabba who described the practical side of his trade as very simple, called on the Government and its partners to provide them the infrastructure that can make fishing practice simple and more profitable for them in that part of the country.
Fishing, many say, is a money-spinning self-employment that apparently calls for huge investment to make it attractive to the youth population in the country.
Is this the case for Sierra Leonean fishermen?
