She was very pleased to note that there were not much wastes during the exercise in the City, pointing out that it was as a result of measures put in place to sanitise the process, including the erection of bins at various points in the City and enforcement of Bye- Laws by council. She challenged community dwellers to perceive the exercise as a “Life Style” and not a day’s event whilst emphasizing the need for more funds to enhance their operations. She described the current dump sites as “dangerous” and entreated residents to separate their plastic wastes from others, adding that plans are also afoot to introduce innovative ways of managing wastes with support from government and partners. She also spoke of plans to support Youths in recycling process, invest in production of Tiles in an environmental friendly manner. Plans, she added are also underway to divide the city into eight blocks to ensure effective and efficient implementation of the process and thanked the Central Government and other stakeholders for their support. Meanwhile, residents in the Western Area Rural District have also expressed appreciation for what they described as “tremendous improvement” in the cleaning exercise, especially at this point in time when key stakeholders such as Members as Parliament, Councilors and Ward Committee Members have “braced up” to ensure the process is fully monitored, following the Minister of Local Government’s visit to the district. It could be recalled that on his last familiarization visit to the district during a cleaning exercise, the Minister expressed dismay over the “poor” manner in which the exercise was implemented an urged stakeholders in the district to increase their level of performance.
