The fire occurred on Christmas day last year and engulfed over sixty houses, including the only community health centre and school. He emphasized the need for the school and the health centre to be reconstructed.
To that end he donated building materials together with 100 bags of rice to help feed teachers and health workers in the affected community.
Community nurse, Fatmata Conteh, said the incident had posed a huge challenge to the community as residents now travelled hours on sea to neighboring communities for medical attention.
She thanked Dr. Yumkella for the timely gesture and expressed hoped that the reconstruction of the heath centre and school would be completed soon.
While engaging women around issues of empowerment and community development, Dr. Yumkella said: “Owing to the fact that they are mostly effective in helping their husbands to grow in their numerous trades, serving in the capacity as the first teacher to train-up the children and ensuring that the homes are comfortable, when women are given the appropriate opportunities to create wealth the entire country benefits.”
The development expert also appealed to residents to pray for him to succeed in his aspirations to be the next president, noting he was confident that power and leadership would emanate from God.
