According the letter dated September 9, 2015, prior to the establishment of the Akarr Industry at the Kossoh Town Community, residents held a meeting with the Manager, Kai Kamara, including other officials, in which they detailed the importance of the land in question; as the only route leading to the homes of over eight hundred residents in that part of the Western Area.
The residents further stated that before the meeting was adjourned, the Manager, the Logistic Officer and other senior officials of Akarr Industry assured them that the industry will explore all means humanly possible, to not only provide an alternative solution to the plight of the community people, but to also respond to it corporate social responsibility; and at the same time construct proper drainage systems within the community.
The also disclosed that the land currently occupied by Akarr Industry has cut off residents in the New London to access Kossoh Town completely, stating that since the Manager and other senior officials willingly consented to address the concern expressed by the community people, nothing positive or tangible has been done in that direction, thus subjecting residents in Kossoh Town to serious embarrassment and constraints.
Speaking to AYV, the Kossoh Town Village Headman, and Victor Haffner explained that stakeholders of the community have written several letters to the Manager of Akarr Industry, to find an alternative solution as agreed at a meeting held on the September 9, 2015. He said the industry officials have deliberately refused to fulfill their promise to the community.
He informed that community stakeholders have resolved in a meeting to take up the issue with the Inspector General of Police, the Minister of Lands Country Planning and Environment, and the Majority Leader of Parliament.
“People in the community people are not opposed to the establishment of a factory in Kossoh Town, but the land currently occupied by the industry has created serious problem for the people here”, the Kossoh Town Headman stated.
