Kroo Bay residents call for rescue

He further stated that they have been neglected by the government for quite some time and as a result of that they deemed it necessary to call on the obligatory authorities to pay special attention to them.

He furthered explained that their major activity at the community is business, which happened to be lucrative and successful during the dry season. Mohamed confirmed that life is extremely difficult for them during the rains as their community is not only a disaster prone area, but also economically impotent during the rains.

He said that they are facing with lots of challenges ranging from poor dwelling houses to inadequate health facilities.

“We are actually suffering in this community. Our children are getting ailing everyday as a result of the filthy environment in which we are living”. He added.

Mohamed Kamara, a member of the disaster management committee told this medium that their role is to do a regular sensitization in the community, especially in the issue of the community safety and security. He furthered that they have identified disaster prone areas and asked occupants to evacuate those particular areas. 

Kamara established that after the 2015 flooding, government promised to relocate residents of Kroo Bay community to six mile community however, he added that government did not meet their part of the bargain as they promised to provide for us the required basic amenities, that situation led us to resettle once again at the Kroo Bay, he stressed.

Fatmata Kanu, a resident who traded in groundnut explained that business has been difficult lately, as most passerbies who happened to be her customers ignored their community during the rains as a result of the sludge and unpleasant scene.

“I have three kids to feed them is not easy, especially in the raining season, we have no other place to go, I will be very happy if  the government can provide for us a better place today, trust me we will leave here today.”Fatmata added. 

She ended by calling on the government and other humanitarian organizations to come to their aid before the rains flounce them again.
