Following the signing of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Technical Education and Professional Training in November 2019, the State of Kuwait and the Republic of Sierra Leone have ratified the Educational Agreement for the provision of reciprocal support in the field of education.
The ratification of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Technical Education and Professional Training would roll out and implement several educational and development programmes to be initiated by the two countries.
The Agreement seeks to provide, among others, exchange of legislation, training and education curriculum programmes, studies and information related to Technical Education and Professional Training, exchange of visits for the management and officials of Technical and Professional Training as well as experts, trainers and trainees of Technical Education and Professional Institutes, develop methods and mechanism followed in the field of information systems, planning, international cooperation, libraries and professional guidance.
Her Excellency, HajaIshata Thomas, revealed she was thrilled by the development, adding that the ratification of the agreement would provide an additional boost to His Excellency, Dr Julius Maada Bio’s agenda, which was the flagship project of the New Direction Administration.
“Ratifying the Educational Agreement will legally strengthen the Embassy’s drive to request for scholarship opportunities for competent Sierra Leoneans desiring to study in various fields, including Islamic Studies in the State of Kuwait. It will also initiate technical training activities for teachers whilst supporting other initiatives for Technical and Professional development,” she noted.
The Government of the State of Kuwait and the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone have signed several bilateral agreements with a view to strengthening the bilateral ties. In August 2020, the Sierra Leone Embassy in Kuwait forwarded the Agreement on Cultural and Artistic Cooperation, Agreement on the Establishment of Joint Commission for Cooperation and the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Technical Education and Professional Training between the State of Kuwait and the Republic of Sierra Leone, which have been ratified by Sierra Leone’s House of Parliament and for subsequent ratification by the State of Kuwait.
Meanwhile, the Education agreement has been forwarded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for onward submission to the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education in Freetown. The Kuwait Government, in this regard, is looking forward to initiating educational proposals leading to the implementation of the said agreement for the mutual benefit of the two sister countries and the peoples.
