Labour minister makes familiarisation tour of Sahn Malen

The Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security Mohamed Rahman Swaray, and a team of Directors of the Ministry visited Sahn Malen in the Pujehun district where they engaged Socfin management and workers of the company to promote industrial peace and harmony, labour education, social dialogue and job creation.

The government of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio placed job creation as one of its big five game changers. The government aimed at creating 500,000 jobs over the next five years.

It is against this backdrop that, the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security under the leadership of Minister Mohamed Rahman Swaray is embarking on a nationwide tour of workplaces to ensure employers and employees have conducive working environments.

Also, through engagements, more opportunities are being discussed to create more jobs to achieve the vision of His Excellency.

In Socfin, Minister Rado, held a meeting with the top management of the company where he explicitly outlined the vision of the government, which is, to ensure the private sector thrives and creates more jobs for citizens. Discussion around the new Labour and Employment Act 2023 and its thorough implementation was emphasised.

The management used the opportunity to present to the Minister the operations of the company and promise to work in the best interest of the people and the nation as a whole.

As a matter of necessity, the Minister went on to engage the workforce where they highlighted the following challenges that are not limited to; NASSIT payment, Contract of employment, Union issues, Poor salaries, leave allowances, Medical facilities, and personal safety equipment. Minister Swaray assured them of bringing their concerns to the management for remedy.

In an exit meeting, the above-mentioned were brought to the notice of the management, and agreed on a clear road map to foster collaboration and resolve the said labour-related matters.
