“The workshop is to bring stakeholders together to discus and draft a working document that can be tabled before parliament for approval and to subsequently help combat illegal migration in the country. This workshop is not just the first one but the third in recent times that engaged stakeholders,” said Mr Savage.
Minister of labour and social security, Mathew Teambo, explained that the government was largely concerned with the challenges of the country’s migration policy, and that they were committed to promoting a fair and effective policy to could maximize migration benefits.
Minister, Timbo further stated that the training on migration governance was very relevant to addressing issues relating to migration and that the policy would be relevant to government in bringing sanity to migration and labour in the country.
Head of division social affairs in ECOWAS, Dr. Alves D’Almada Jorge, acknowledged that the region was important in terms of migration and that they were looking forward to increasing the level of understanding of free movement for the protection of migrant workers and family.
