Also speaking at the occasion was the UNFPA Country Representative, Dr. Kim Dickson. He praised the First Lady’s initiative, adding that other African First Ladies should emulate her initiative taking into consideration the fact that SGBV is on the increase in Africa and in other parts of the world. Other speakers were the Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh and former Minister of Mines in the APC government, Alhaji Alpha Khan among several others.
The event attracted stakeholders from the political divide including artists, religious and traditional leaders, paramount chiefs, school children, media representatives and a host of government officials and non-government actors.
Mrs. Bio used the opportunity to admonish parents and guardians to always protect their children especially the girl child against all forms of sexual and gender-based violence. She said some parents have the time to check whether their children are carrying pens and books in their bags but do not have the time to check whether their children especially the girl child is in her room at night or whether she is sexually active or not.
Mrs. Bio has taken her campaign right across the country. In the last few days she was in Magburaka, Kenema, Pujehun and Kambia.
