The Ministry of Lands Housing and Country Planning has revealed that it has generated Le38.9 billion in revenue for the government from January to August this year.
Minister of Lands Housing and Country Planning, Dr. Turad Senesie said this was as a result of the robust mechanism his ministry has putting in place to generate the needed revenue for the government.
He said his ministry is among those that are responsible for amassing revenue for the government to support social services and he will therefore make sure this is achieved.
According to him, the yearly revenue used to be Le601 million, but the New Direction government has increased that immensely within the last two years, and they will continue in that drive.
The minister furthered that the strategy he and his team have adopted to improve revenue mobilizations is the orientation of staff of the ministry of lands, fiscal discipline, and bringing other revenue streams that they were not pushing for such as regularization and service plot.
However, the minister said they still have challenges with the building permit but they are working to address it soon, while mentioning putting a strategy in place to tackle land grabbing, with the ministry now gathering documents to publicly name and shame those who are involved in the illegal act to deprive other members of the public.
