The items, received by the Deputy Minister of Defense Colonel Rtd. Simeon Nasiru Sheriff, ranged from ten five-gallon rubbers of vegetable oil, two cartons of tea bags, ten bags of salt, five cartons of sardines, five cartons of luncheon meat to one hundred bags of rice.
Speaking at the donation ceremony, the Chairman of Mercury International Charitable Foundation, Samir Hassanyeh, said they are saddened by the hapless woe, for which reason they as a community deemed it fit to make an intervention with this token of food items to help the bereaved families and those responding to treatment at the hospital.
In response, Dr. Lieutenant Colonel Sevalie attached at the 34 Military Hospital thanked the Lebanese Community for sympathizing with the army during this trying time. He described the crisis as difficult since it has been years since the military last recorded casualty at such number in a single blow. “As at now, we are making frantic effort to ensure those hospitalized recover in the shortest possible time,” he said.
This show of sympathy marked one of hundreds of timely interventions the Lebanese Community has made. From the humanitarian assistance rendered to victims of fire incidents across Freetown to the support given to those trapped in the flash flood and mudslide disaster of last year August 14, the selfless move of the Lebanese Community has helped mitigate draining crises.
