In November of 2018, LFR International began coordinating its current work with the Secretary-General of the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society, Kpawuru Sandy, and signed a memorandum of understanding to create a partnership to develop a first responder system to care for casualties of road accidents. Recently with the Red Cross, LFR International created a national coalition called the “First Responder Coalition of Sierra Leone,” of which the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society is the chairing organization. Additional founding members include the University of Makeni, Agency for Rural Community Transformation, and the Holy Spirit Hospital. The Coalition is dedicated to the development of emergency medical service programs nationally to alleviate the injury burden faced by Sierra Leone.

LFR International has since created a local emergency reporting system in Makeni, so that when LFR returns to provide Level 2 trainings to community members for non-trauma medical emergencies, LFR will know which kinds of problems the people of Makeni encounter most often. The system will also tell which first responders are most active in applying their skills, as those responders who are most active will be chosen for Level 2 trainings planned for 2020.
