The Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs with support from the World Bank funded Resilient Urban Sierra Leone Project has handed over motor bikes, desktop and laptops computers, printers among other equipment’s to Six councils.
The handing over ceremony took place on Thursday 7th September this year at the Ministry of Finance Conference Room on George street in Freetown.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony the financial secretary at the ministry of finance who doubled as the chairperson of the occasion Matthew Dingie said this is a drive as to how they continue to capacitate local councils to be in a better position to serve communities.
Matthew Dingie also said under this project funded by the world bank they are providing a lot of support to the councils to be able to respond to issues relating to disaster and how they manage waste and other community related social issues.
He added that if the councils are not prepared in terms of how they respond to these issues they will not get the best result at the end of the day noting that they are the key drivers of protecting the environment.
Mr. Dingie noted this is why they taught it fit as part of the project to give logistical support to the local councils inorder for them to be always prepared to respond to issues of shock.
On his part the deputy minister of local government and community affairs Alfred Jamiru said that it is important to note that this partnership has span for many years and the donation is not the first.
He added that the ministry is very optimistic that it will not be the last of such support to the councils. He also called on the recipients to use the equipment’s for their intended purposes.
