Delivering her statement, the Country Director, Sarrah Janneh emphasized that the core drive of the Madiba project is to improve the standard of education in underprivileged West African regions, as everyone deserves the right to a quality education and this is something that the founder Mikhail Kallon is very passionate about. She further said that Madiba is a registered charitable organization which was established to promote young people with so many services and address the humanitarian needs in the life of underprivileged Schools, Communities, Libraries and Institutions with Educational Materials.
She disclosed that the Madiba Project has donated several learning Materials to 50 Schools in Sierra Leone and the project has contributed a lot towards the free and quality education. She expressed her excitement for attracting waiver duty for the long awaited Container that they suffered over one year to clear the port and thanked the Government, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, Pacific Informational line Sierra Leone, Dr. Stevens, their donors Abax King fisher, and other Volunteers of the Madiba project that contributed in making sure the project was successful.
She expressed excitement to officially hand over the Library Materials to the Sierra Leone Library Board and advised that the materials be used for its intended purpose.
Delivering his statement on receiving the donated items, the Chief Librarian Mr. Sale Turay, emphasized that the New Direction of His Excellency President Bio is on human capital investment and the donation of the furnitures will no doubt contribute to the development of learning in the country. He disclosed that since he met with the Founder of Madiba Project Mikhail Kallon, he has been advised to concentrate on equipping the library with furniture rather than books.
Mr. Turay stressed that the provision of these furniture has given the Library Board a facelift as they can now boast of state of the art furnitures. He disclosed that the 116 shelves, 37 tables, 19 chairs, several trolleys and display boards have changed the various divisions of the Library Board especially the Children, Adult Lending, Archives, Management etc.
He thanked the Founder of the Madiba Project in Australia Mikhail Kallon, the country director Sarrah Janneh, donors and all that contributed to see the success of the project. The vote of thanks was delivered by the Administrative Assistant Mrs. Theresa Conteh and was climaxed with a conducted tour of the facilities.
