“I have over fifteen case files which personnel at the Kissy Police Division assigned to my court with no complainant to led evidence, witness , witnesses or suspects charged to court,” magistrate Wurie stated.
The presiding Magistrate, Mohamed Serray Wurie went on to state that he was going to take up the issue with the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Crime Services , AIG Morie Lengor in a bid to discouraging such unprofessional conduct of personnel deployed at the Kissy Police Division .
He informed the court that he had served as magistrate at the Pademba road court, main law court building along Siaka Steven street without experiencing such situation at the Ross road court, where case files assigned to his court from Kissy Police Division, were without anything for the court to adjudicate.
Some of these case files, Magistrate Serra Wurie said contained very serious charges and was fed up of the abnormality, with regards to the standard procedure of the Sierra Leone Police Force, on how cases reported to police stations should be investigated, established substantial elements and charged to court .
He made these disclosures while adjudicating a matter involving two accused persons, Gbassay Conteh and Chernor Sesay, who were docked for the offence of conspiracy to defraud and receiving money on false pretences, contrary to Section (32 Sub Sections (1) of the larceny act of 1916, of the laws of Sierra Leone.
According to the presiding magistrate of Ross road court, the attitude of police officers attached to especially the crime department of the Kissy Police Division was sending wrong messages to the public, and he was not in court for a picnic, but to do what was required to the law.
Both accused were alleged to have collected the sum of twenty million leones from the complainant, Willie Fofanah on the pretext of securing him some parcel of land at Allen town along Freetown –Waterloo highway, on 14 August 2015.
Before relocating both accused persons at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba road in Freetown, Magistrate Mohamed Serray Wurie advised them to refund the complainant money, as their actions had the potentiality to divide society.
He concluded that he would not take it lightly with the two accused persons and warned them to explore all means necessary to refund the complainant’s money, and for them to reframed from defrauding unsuspected members of the public with fake lands.
