In the midst of these concerns from certain quarters across the country, drivers and motor vehicle owners in the northern city of Makeni have taken an exception to the grave concerns raised by others.
According to them, the establishment of a toll road along Freetown Masiaka Highway is timely as it contributes to infrastructural development and limits traffic jam and rate of road accidents on the route.
Hassan Kamara is a driving plying the route on a daily basis. He said Sierra Leone is not the only country to have established a toll road system in the sub-region and that other countries including Ghana also has the same system. He welcomed the system and thanked government for the initiative.
Kadiatu Koroma, a regular commuter of the road said the system must not be an issue of criticism but rather a very timely developmental initiative that must be embraced and celebrated by all and sundry.
She pointed out that Sierra Leone has been lacking behind for so long now in terms of infrastructural development and with such an with initiative by the government and its partners, every Sierra Leonean should be celebrating the system and not to be negative about it.
A truck driver, Abdulai Kamara expressed hope that the next President of Sierra Leone after 2018 elections would complement the development initiative of President Koroma and raise Sierra Leone to top in the world development index.
