According to the mother of the deceased, the two girls were given some palm wine by the men which they drank and just after drinking, the deceased became very weak and fell on the ground but was still conscious and saw her friend (name withheld) going to the bush with one of the men. She said that after they returned from the bush, the friend asked the other man to rape the deceased or else she will report her to their grandmother when they return. The man did as was instructed and after raping the young girl, he gave the two girls the sum of twelve thousand Leones (le 12,000) and the both returned home.
Upon their arrival at their homes, they were seriously questioned by their parents but both were afraid to say the truth. The following morning, the deceased started feeling feverish and was rushed to the Koidu government hospital. The nurses only treated her for malaria and they returned home but her condition kept deteriorating. She couldn’t eat any food and when forced to eat, she vomited it immediately. Her condition continued like that until a relative who went on a visit detected that something was wrong with her sexual organ. She was then taken to an old woman for interrogation where she explained everything about the man who raped her and threatened to kill her if she explains it to anyone. She was again rushed to the hospital for medical attention and upon their arrival at the hospital; they were referred to the rainbow centre for check up and the result from the rainbow centre clearly shows that she was indeed raped. She was immediately put on treatment but unfortunately, she didn’t make it. The perpetrators are presently awaiting trails.
