that 18, 000 Massai people, who are marginalized, are set to benefit from the water project recalling that he was the only westerner in the village at the time where he worked as a volunteer in an orphanage adding that the elders welcomed him and that the orphanage was sponsored by private donors in Denmark and Norway.
The water will be sourced from a nearby village and will be powered by solar to supply the community.
According to Charlie Uldahl Christensen, “it is a personal adventure. I am combining adventure and charity. Working For Water has formed a network of volunteers, has a website and 11,500 Facebook followers. Furthermore, I sleep in the bush but most times with the local people in all the countries I have visited. I have gone to remote places where most people, even locals, have not gone.”
He also informed that he takes loan from a bank in Denmark and writes stories for a newspaper at home to finance his trip that has taken him through Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea and Sierra Leone and plans to visit Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Benin, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania.
He said he started walking at age 27 underscoring that it is his personal dream and passion to live like that observing that he has inspired many youths although some people are depressed in most of the African countries he has visited as life is tough on the continent adding that some youths are complacent and do not want to work but want money and suggested that entrepreneurs would transform Africa.
At the moment, Charlie Uldahl Christensen is half way thought the 9,500 kilometre journey.
He revealed that he worked for six months at an orphanage in a village in Tanzania where the people walk 19 kilometres to fetch water, that his philanthropic pilgrimage is to get sponsors like multi-national companies for the water project in Tanzania and plans to advertise for the sponsors during his walk in various parts of the world.
He disclosed that he plans to fix a water tank at Riket, Banana Island in Sierra Leone where he has visited.
Charlie Uldahl Christensen was a soldier for two and a half years and served in Afghanistan at the age of 20, later a sailor for three years during which period he sailed to many countries and also worked as a journalist for a Danish newspaper for a year and a half.
