“The Africa Development Bank established about eight centers in the country and handed it over to the government in 2009 but everything was vandalized,” Prof. Gbakima lamented.
According to Prof. Gbakima, people take TVET as second class degree training which is wrong, citing that in the past there was no subvention for the NCTVA.
Professor Gbakima maintained that TVET is practical training that needs to be enhanced, stating that most people think that without a degree they will not have a job.
“If people can go through the training for one or two years, there is hope for them to have better jobs or train themselves,” Prof. Gbakima said, adding that people need to change their mindset from obtaining academic degrees to focusing on skills’ training.
