Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Timothy Musa Kabba, has been showcasing the nation’s progressive vision in a series of productive engagements in London.
Starting with a compelling interview at the BBC, over the weekend, Minister Kabba emphasised Sierra Leone’s diplomatic standpoint and its commitment to global peace amidst rising challenges.
He underlined the importance of engaging with all key players on the global arena, reflecting the country’s pragmatic approach and progressive viewpoint, while also speaking about the necessity for supporting adherence to democratic principles and practices.
This, he said, was in line with President Julius Maada Bio’s strong devotion to advancing international peace and strengthening the global democratic culture.
In a meeting in the FCDO with UK’s Minister of State for Africa, the Rt. Hon Andrew Mitchell MP, Minister Kabba reiterated Sierra Leone’s strong and enduring relations with the U.K. On the subject of the Falkland Islands, Minister Timothy Musa Kabba expressed support for the island people in the bid to determine their own fate.
Discussions also covered Sierra Leone’s constructive and commendable role in the UN Security Council.
At the Chatham House, Minister Kabba was warmly welcomed by Dr. Alex Vines OBE, Director of the Chatham House Africa Programme. In his presentation Minister Timothy Kabba highlighted Sierra Leone’s accomplishments in the UNSC, while emphasising sustained efforts in peace-building.
Speaking further, the minister extolled governance, and development strides under President Julius Maada Bio’s leadership. He stressed the nation’s priority areas including education, agriculture, gender equality, healthcare provision and democratic development.
Looking ahead to Sierra Leone’s presidency of the Security Council in August 2024, Minister Timothy Kabba outlined plans to address structural imbalances and prioritize peacebuilding. He affirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to upholding international peace and security through partnership, dialogue and multilateralism.
Minister Kabba concluded his engagements with a courtesy visit to the Sierra Leone High Commission in London before returning to Freetown.
