Some of the projects earmarked by the Alumni Association include transforming the college to a university status, rehabilitation of hostels and construction of new ones, existing lecture halls, provision of teaching and learning materials, construction and expansion of the library, provision of computers and internet facilities, furniture, transportation for lecturers and students and an annual Reunion Night.
In his status report and launch of the college project, the Acting Principal of the college, Dr. Philip Kanu articulated that there is need to train lecturers in the use of computers and the internet, disclosed plans to construct more hostels and staff quarters as most of the lecturers are residing out of campus, that students would only be allowed to access educational websites, that plans are underway to provide more furniture and a bus service and welcomed the reunion.
He also lamented that renovation of the library that started some few years ago has still not been completed underscoring that the college cannot run effectively without a library and furthered that the college is plagued with poor sanitation, toilet facilities, water and electricity supply and vehemently condemned the recent student violence against the college’s administration during the Students Union elections in which college property was destroyed.
Earlier, welcoming members of the alumni, the Vice Principal of the college, Dr. Abdulai Maxim Conjoh affirmed that he is optimistic that the Association would be able to achieve greater heights for the college and development of the country and observed that the reactivation of the Association is an opportunity to bring old students together to transform their alma mater.
According to the Vice Principal, past students of the college can be found in all spheres of national development contributing to nation-building highlighting that the qualifications they received from the college made them what they are today.
Dr. Conjoh added that in the past, graduates from the college with Higher Teachers’ Certificates taught at the highest level in the country and created impact reiterating that the college obtained very good results in the past.
He continued that the Association can contribute to transform the institution to regain its past glory and condemned, in no uncertain terms, the unacceptable behavior of students past Friday who held the administration hostage for over six hours demanding their resignation in addition to damaging college property.
An eight-member Steering Committee of the Alumni Association was formed headed by B.W. Bockarie.
Highlights of the reunion were reactions, reminiscences and singing of the college song.
