This component aims to utilize the services of expatriate and Sierra Leonean nationals as a short-term measure to fill critical gaps in the health care delivery system as part of the Post-Ebola Recovery activities, while the country works on a more sustainable human resource for health development programme.
Speaking at the orientation ceremony held in the conference hall of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, Matron Hossinatu Koroma reminded the Midwives and Nurses that they are both accountable to the public and the Ministry to promote professional code of practice, conduct and ethics in their various duty stations.
She opined that they should be able to detect and manage emergencies, be a team player and a builder with the required competencies, as well as promoting regular clinical services, and timely referrals.
Matron Koroma underscored the importance of their participation in clinical meetings, supporting timely requisition of drugs and supplies from hospitals and stores, respect and promote individual cultural differences and to be able to manage stress.
She dilated on the management of the triage, case complications, the National Emergency Medical Services (NEMS), duty schedule and the various area of deployment.
Retired Midwife and Founder of the Friends of Maternity Hospitals Madam Isha Daramy-Kabia encouraged her junior colleagues to go as a manager and a mentor in their various health facilities.
She described the task given to them as a new job that needs efficiency, commitment, maturity and dedication to service.
