Mr Turay assured the people and government of their commitment to the project, noting that the government was even preparing documents of land owners of the affected communities.

“It could be recalled that in 2014 President Ernest Bai Koroma commissioned the project before the Ebola struck,” he recalled, adding that the project titled: ‘Moyamba Junction’ was funded by the European Union and the government and would include four bridges – Gbagbama, Gbaley, Mabang and Magbeley.

Section chief of Ndabalaga in the Fakunyah chiefdom of Moyamba, David Bangura, explained that the Magbele Ferry bridge divided Koya chiefdom and Marampa in the Port Loko district and that the old bridge was a death-trap that had claimed lives and caused major injuries on a day by basis.

He furthered that the bridge was a trading centre where community people would meet, so the construction would minimise risks involved and reduce the spate of accidents.

A land owner said the project was very much significant for an easy cross over to the other district and that they had waited for that since the president commissioned it in 2014.
