The National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) concluded a day-long discussion with the Regional Rice Value Chain Project, through its Kambia district office. The main goals of the meeting are to address important areas for cooperation and focus on completing the key five (5) agenda items, with a particular emphasis on Feed Salone.
In his statement, Mr. Abdulai, the project coordinator, acknowledged and expressed gratitude for the Commission’s interventions in enhancing the rice value chain by constructing grain stores and renovating feeder roads. They also valued the Commission’s participation in certain decision-making sessions, such as the recently concluded Technical Review Committee (TRC) hosted by the Pro-poor Growth for Peace Consolidation and Youth Employment (GPCYE) project.
The project will provide two (2) integrated rice mails, one in each chiefdom, and farmers will receive training, including establishing connections with financial institutions. He outlined the main activities of the rice value chain project for Kambia, saying that in Kambia, the focus is on Mambolo and Samu chiefdom.
Recall that NaCSA finished implementing the Pro-poor Growth for Peace Consolidation (GPCIII) third phase. Taking into account the program’s impact and degree of accountability, the team cited and asked for cooperation in choosing the communities where grain stores and feeder road rehabilitation would be built. He concluded by saying that they could find it useful to have a grain store in Mambolo Town.
Kambia District’s NaCSA District Coordinator, Sahr Kellie, welcomed the team on behalf of Amb. Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina, the Commissioner of NaCSA. To accomplish His Excellency Dr Julius Maada Bio’s feed Salone objective, he praised the team for their collaboration.
The District Council continues to be the primary partner in the execution of infrastructure projects, and it is the council that gives a priority list based on predetermined criteria. He clarified the process of choosing a community. The grain store built in Kichun, Samu chiefdom under the Community Demand Driven Project, was one of the communities Kellie mentioned as well as others where the Commission had built grain stores and restored feeder roads under GPC.
DC Kellie asked that the cooperation be maintained and that they be allowed to utilize the grain stores that are now in place in Mambolo chiefdom and Kitchun, Samu chiefdom (CDDP). The GPCYE’s anticipated 2025 actions, he concluded, will provide Mambolo and Samu access to more grain stockpiles.
