Giving an overview of the seminar, the Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Fredrick Kamara said the seminar is part of the commission’s objectives to empower its staff and commissioners. He stated that the seminar is also a platform that would find strategies to address issues that are affecting disable persons in the country.
Dr. Fredrick Kamara stated that the seminar also created an opportunity for Ministries, Departments and Agencies to understand the challenges the commission is faced with.
In his statement to officially declare the seminar open, the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs Mustapha Bai Atilla described the seminar as a laudable venture initiated by the chairman of the commission. He said the initiative manifested the effectiveness of the commission to perform its mandate.
Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs stated that the expectations of the disable people for the commission are very high and therefore only this venture will actualized them. He said it has been five years since the passing of the Disable Act into law and therefore effective this year public places must be disable friendly, otherwise the law would soon take its course.
Mustapha Bai Atilla said despite government has done a lot to address disable issues, but it has to do more to empower disable persons in the country. Presentations by Ministries, Departments and Agencies; and questions and answers form part of the seminar.
