NEC embarks on biometric training

 The training was referred to as training of trainers program was held at the Apex hotel in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone.  

The training assembled district officers in the western and northern region, and south-east district officers training happened in Bo city, southern Sierra Leone.

According Sylvester Amara, NEC Director of Information Technology who doubles as the facilitator of the training said the multi-purpose device for voters’ registration and national civil registration through a biometric process is one to write home about and the training was to prepare them to oversee the overall district level training process.

 He further explained that the training process would enabled registration officers, data entry officers, ward coordinators, including registration assistants in every registration center nationwide, to foster the registration process amicably.

He further stated that Smartmatic Technology served as the technical training consultant for the voter registration device. He furthered that the success of the registrations depended on the just concluded training. As he added that he expects all trainers to master the kits.

‘’ the participants have to master the kits if they don’t know how to use the kits, it would not be fruitful registration and trainees have the responsibility to execute from their present level to the central level’’ he said   

Yusuf Fofanah, of the Smartmatic organization, was the lead technical trainer for the biometric device. He spoke more on how the training materials were put together and how to use the kit. He furthered that the training was a compressed training session that will help trainees to train other stakeholders in the electioneering process. He clearly noted that total of ten thousand people’s have to be trained, and they will be the end user of the registration process.

Participants of the training expressed their gratitude to NEC, for the new knowledge that was impacted on them and promised to deliver it diligently 

Participants from NEC and the NCRA also gave applauded participants, for their effort in the country’s electioneering registration process.
