It can be recalled that Hon. Dr. Yumkella, recently participated in the 2019 World Food Day Celebration in Port Loko in his capacity as Chair of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Agriculture.
This year, World Food Day calls for action across sectors to make healthy and sustainable diets affordable and accessible to everyone, with the aim of achieving zero hunger.
In the 2019 Global Hunger Index, Sierra Leone ranks 103rd out of 117 qualifying countries. With a score of 30.4, Sierra Leone suffers from a level of hunger that is serious. Sierra Leone has been in continuous decline in the rate of hunger since 2000, when it achieved a score of 53.6.
The NGC MP has demonstrated his commitment to tackling hunger, malnutrition and poverty, by leading this call for action in Parliament and across the country.
