Njala University Takes Steps to Curb Corruption

Speaking on several of their development accomplishments as a new administration that assumed office on 27th June, 2018, Prof. Mansaray informed the press that his leadership in collaboration with the University administration has innovated prudent financial transparency and accountability measures meant to curb corruption in the university.

He added that the university has also worked assiduously to reduce its financial liabilities from 93 billion Leones  (about 10 billion USD) to 47 billion Leones and commended the Finance department and the audit sub-committee of the university court for support the process.

He said the university has overhauled and upgraded it website substantially to serve as an integral Part of a wider system and process automation effort, giving it the capacity to support online applications, university webmail and online learning management. The university will continue to innovate teaching and learning space to catch up with the challenges of the 4th industrial revolution’, professor Mansaray added.

Among other achievements outlined by the Njala University Vice Chancellor Professor Mansaray within the period of one year include, the establishment of pedagogical excellence for the training of teachers and instructors to enable them drive a paradigm from a knowledge-based to skills and competence- based across Sierra Leone., installation of CCTV Cameras in lecture rooms to curb examination malpractices, approval of the Bonthe Technical and training College to Bonthe Campus focusing on research, and training in technical entrepreneurship, maritime studies, tourism and hospitality management.

The VC spoke about improvement of facilities at the hostels adding that classroom accommodation will be addressed soon as the university has procured thousands of lecture room facilities now on the sea to Sierra Leone. He assured the media and all of his leadership commitment to transform Njala University into an ultra modem university by introducing courses and programmes that will compete with other universities worldwide and make Jobs available for students that graduate from the university.

As part of several of his achievements were the reactivation of the students’ union activities on campus but expressed his frustration on the conducts of students describing it as unfortunate. The VC is however assuring students that the election will go on but only when the university must have developed better strategies.

This is the first ever press conference organized by the Njala University administration that created space for the media to ask questions about the activities of the university administration.
