Ambassador Alhaji Brima Elvis Koroma

Sierra Leone Ambassador to Dakar, Senegal, His Excellency Alhaji Brima Elvis Koroma has debunked a disinformation circulated on social media alleging that some five hundred Sierra Leoneans have been arrested in Senegal and are awaiting deportation to Sierra Leone.

Amb. Koroma said: “No Sierra Leonean is being arrested for deportation in Senegal. On June 30 and July 1, 2023, the Senegalese Government removed some people at a place called ‘Bai Yaraq Cite embasse’ – a prone crime scene area.

“The Senegalese government had issued notices to residents within that area to vacate. A large number of Malians, Guineans and other foreign nationals were affected and taken to a stadium at Tiaroye.

“A total of eleven Sierra Leoneans, ten men and 1 woman were said to be affected. The Sierra Leone Embassy in Dakar, Senegal, is closely working with the Sierra Leonean community leadership in Dakar to screen them and issue consular cards to those not found wanting of any crime so that they will be allowed to re-integrate”.

The ambassador called on all to disregard audio disinformation that the Sierra Leoneans have been rounded up in Senegal for deportation.
