The ruling All People’s Congress (APC) party nomination day turned violent with stones flying in the air in addition to stabbing and branding of offensive weapons like cutlass and knives and riotous behaviors in parts of the Freetown city.
While it remains unclear as to what provoked the violence, the opposition parties believe that it was a deliberate attempt by the ruling party to fuel a state of insecurity that will lead to a police ban on freedom of movement on polling day.
According to the opposition, they will resist any attempt to lockdown the country on elections that so as to prevent election rigging.
They have called on the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to investigate the violence and come out with a detailed explanation of the situation.
The press statements from the two parties are published verbatim in this edition.
