Over 1 million dollar-worth of drugs set ablaze in Freetown

The Transitional Organise Crime Unit (TOCU) of the Sierra Leone Police and other law enforcement agencies have set ablaze two hundred and seventy-three Cartoons of Diclofenac and seventy Cartoons of Tramadol, worth one million and eighty thousand United States dollars. The aim is to make Sierra Leone an illicit drugs free country.

Deputy Director, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, Ibrahim Kargbo said: “The destruction of the 343 Cartoons mark the third destruction of narcotics in this 2024. We did this same exercise in February and April this year and we are here again”.

The Tramadol he said weighs 4200kg while the Diclofenac weighs 6000kg bringing the total weight to 10200kg and that the Tramadol worth $700,000 and the Diclofenac $380,000.

Director of Crime Services in the Sierra Leone Police, Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Lahai emphasis that the ultimate goal of the destruction was not to have such drugs in the country.

Lahai said: “With such narcotics, the future of the country’s youth population he said is bleak”. He therefore called on the public to help with intelligent that may lead to the arrest of importation, sales and distribution of narcotics drugs.
