Parliament Ratifies Bumbuna Phase II Agreements

Presenting the agreement to Parliament, the Minister of Energy, Henry Macaulay, acknowledged the tremendous strides the government has made in the energy sector and noted the importance   of the Bumbuna phase I achievements for the development of the economy.

On the second phase, the Minister informed Parliament that a bigger and larger dam will be constructed to accommodate over 143 megawatt of electricity. He outlined the benefits the country will derive from phase II.

MP’s, who spoke on the ratification welcomed the agreement and referred to it as non- controversial and non-political.

Both Leaders of the House acknowledged the importance of the agreement and welcomed the initiatives of the Energy Ministry for the phase II.

In another development, Parliament has also enacted into law the bill entitled the National Fertilizer Regulatory Agency. The Bill is to provide for the establishment of a National Fertilizer Regulatory Agency to ensure the regulation and management of large scale of commercial importation, manufacturing and distribution of fertilizers in Sierra Leone and other related matters.
