They are charged with the offense of Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Murder, which negate Section (4) of the offenses against the Person Act of 1861 of the laws of Sierra Leone.
When the matter came up on Monday 3rd September 2018, before the Hon. Justice John Bosco Allieu, five of the jurors were conspicuously absent, thus restraining the court from proceeding with the trial of the three accused persons.
This development did not go down well with the presiding Judge who ordered the Court Registrar to enforce a Bench Warrant he had earlier slammed on the absentee jurors.
He expressed his frustration over the way and manner the absent jurors are treating the court, and that they should be arrested and thrown into jail for treating the court with levity.
He added that the three accused persons are facing serious capital offences, and that their trial should be expedited in the name of justice and fair play.
He adjourned the matter to September 18 when the Criminal Session of the High Court resumes.
Meanwhile, the three accused persons were defended by Lawyer C. Tucker from Legal Aid Board and the State was presented by A. Kargbo from Law Officers’ Department, Lamina Sankoh Street in Freetown.
It could be recalled that the body of the deceased Patrick Bangura was discovered in a pit latrine at the above-mentioned address by a relative who then reported the matter to the police.
