A combined team of Community Relations Department personnel from the Harbour Police Division and the Kissy Police Division, together with the Student Anti-Violence Movement representatives from various secondary schools, visited the Methodist Boys High School and the Sierra Leone Muslim Congress Secondary School, Kissy, Freetown, for sensitization purpose on drug abuse and non-violence campaign messages.
Stating the purpose of the visit, Mr. Melbourne Greene (LPPB Regional Secretary General Freetown-East) urged the pupils of both schools to be law-abiding and to abstain from any form of violence within or outside their school compound. He also warned the pupils to protect their future by taking their academic work seriously, and avoid been in conflict with the law.
ASP Joseph Tholley (OC CRD Kissy) outlined the dangers of consuming narcotic drugs as they can lead to death or insanity. He admonished the pupils not to imitate bad behaviour but rather concentrate on their studies and protecting their family name.
Sgt. 9585 Dumbuya E.S, (Regional CRD Coordinator Freetown-East) reminded the pupils that no one is above the law, minor or adult. And therefore, they must desist from any form of anti-social behaviour that may warrant their arrest for breaching the law.
On behalf of the Students Anti-Violence Movements, Bai Dumbuya (a pupil of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School) implored the pupils to envision their future twenty to thirty years from now based on the choices they are making now. Both Mr. Moses Conteh, Vice Principal of MBHS, and Alhaji Abdulai Jalloh, Head Boy of SLMC, applauded the efforts of the police but also urged them to increase raids at grey areas where criminals are nurturing young minds into criminality. They concluded by advising the pupils to take the message seriously and be law-abiding.
