Port Loko Catholic Secondary School, which was founded on 25th January, 1969 by Bishop Alhaji Klnazalie, was later known as the Sheka Steven Commercial Secondary School with six students.
The school has produced successful state men and women now serving the country as medical doctors, lawyers, engineers, Teacher, politicians and other developmental sectors.
Master of Ceremony of the event, Dr. Sedu Sesay, who is also a member of Catholic Old Students Association (COSA) said the Anniversary is a reminder of its story, its success and challenges.
According to him, it is a moment to remember that the school does not only exist as a school, but as flames of excellence that is geared towards producing meaningful people that will help change society.
“Apart from pursuing academic excellence, P.L.C.S.S. has also put great emphasis on community service wherein pupils of the school are encouraged to take part in the development and transformation processes of their respective communities” the doctor said.
Musa Kamara is Secretary General of the Catholic Old Students Association. She said it is a pleasure to celebrate such a day because according to him, it brings back memories of the days when some of them were pupils of the school.
She said their support to the school is necessary to help pupils pursue their academic work and improve the school.
Principal for Port Loko Catholic Secondary School, Andrew A. Sesay registered his appreciation to the Catholic Old Students Association for helping the school and giving scholarship to its pupils.
He expressed thanks and appreciation to President Julius Maada Bio and his Ministers of Education for the free and equality education currently being implemented countrywide.
“I have completed the construction of a five classroom building with a modern computer lab equip with over twenty-five new computer, photocopiers, printers, projectors, a standby generator and other much needed accessories, solely out of the school’s fund and donations made by parents” he said.
The principal went on to say the school is in dire need of an assemble hall for its pupils to be holding morning devotions, while also emphasizing the need for the completion of the school’s fence and five unfinished classroom buildings.
“I humbly call on NGO’s, humanitarians, government officials and other stakeholders to come to our aid and build the country’s future leaders.” he appealed.
Haja Isata Abdulai, Resident Minister North West who also graced the event said giving quality education is key to human development. She buttressed the calls by the principal and other speakers at the event for assistance to the school.
“It is not an easy job to teach pupils or the daily pressure teachers have to endure during their services as teachers. Parents should also monitor their children’s performance in school when they reach home so as to reduce the burden on teachers at school” the minister called.
She also admonished the pupils to take their academic work seriously because according to her, they are the future leaders and developers of the country.
