President Julius Maada Bio yesterday 24th August, 2022 announced the establishment of a 15-man Special Investigation Committee to examine both the immediate and underlying causes, sources of financing, execution and consequences of the violent acts. The Committee is also charged to assess the response of the security forces during the riot.
The composition of the Special Investigation Committee includes Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai Esq. as Chairman, Lawrence L. Bassie as Secretary, Executive Director of the Legal Aid Board, National Security Coordinator in the Office of National Security, President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, Executive Director of Defence for Children International, National President of Women’s Forum-Sierra Leone, President of the Inter-Religious Council of Sierra Leone, National Chairman of the Council of Paramount Chiefs, Chairman of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion, Chairman of the Political Parties’ Registration Commission, Chairman of the Independent Media Commission, Chairman of the Retired Senior Police Officers’ Association and the Chairman Sierra Leone Ex-Servicemen Association.
